A letter from the past
Dear Future Me,
Some people seemed to flourish in lockdown. They looked inward, and built themselves up.
You tried your best to do the same, but it was hard: you draw energy from human interaction, and that was a scarce resource for the last 18 months. In fact, you often described your pandemic existence as like that of a "caged animal."
So I hope that, by the time you read this in the summer of 2024, you have been set free. I hope you have connected and grown and flourished, despite the many other things aside from a virus that could stand in a person's way.
I'm not naive. Although living without the world for more than a year was hard, I know that living with the world to come might very well be harder. But I hope -- no, I trust -- that you have found a way.
Sincerely,
You in July 2021
